CONFIRMING NME'S world exclusive new story last week, it has now been officially announced that Mick Ronson is joining Mott The Hoople. He makes his live debut with the band in a European tour from October 10 to November 2 taking in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Holland and France. He is currently engaged in rehearsals with the other members.
His first appearance in Britain will be during Mott's previously-reported concert tour starting in mid-November, for which the first confirmed dates are London Hammersmith Odeon on December 6 and 7. And he will be touring the States with Mott early in the New Year.
Ronson's recording debut with Mott is on their new single 'Saturday Gig' which CBS release is mid-October. Simultaneously issued is Mott's live album, recorded half at Broadway's Uris Theatre and half at London's Hammersmith Odeon, although of course Ronson does not figure on this set.
The former Spiders From Mars leader will, as forecasted by NME, be performing some of his own material during Mott's stage act. He will also be involved in production and arrangements for Mott's next album. But at the same time, he is also working on a new solo album and single, which RCA hopes to release in November. This confirms NME's report that Ronson will continue his solo career whenever it does not interfere with Mott's commitments.
Mott's tour will be billed as 'A Rock 'n' Roll Evening with Mott The Hooople.' Tickets for the two Hammersmith Odeon gigs are now available by post from the box-office at L2, L1.50 and L1. Other dates and venues will be announced shortly.
