RONSON ABLAZE! 12 concerts aim to kill Bowie 'shadow'

16 March 1974

Following his two nights at London's Rainbow theatre in February, Mick Ronson is to do another London date next month--as part of his first-ever
solo tour of Britain.

Mainman, his management company, are now putting all their efforts behind him to establish Ronson as a star aside from Bowie's influence. Tony DeFries, his manager, flew in over the weekend from New York and has been staying at London's Inn On The Park to supervise events.

Ronson will play at Hammersmith Odeon on April 19 using the same nucleus of musicians as at the Rainbow. Mark Pritchard (rhythm guitar), Mike Garson (keyboards), Trevor Bolder (bass) and Ritchie Dharma (drums). The backing vocalists are the Thunderthighs, the three-piece girl group, and he will also include a brass section of two trumpets, one trombone and two saxes.

The 12-city tour starts at Preston Guildhall (April 10), continuing at Manchester Free Trade Hall (11), Edinburgh Odeon (12), Newcastle City Hall (13), Caird Hall, Dundee (16), Apollo Glasgow (17), Hammersmith Odeon (19), Briston Colston Hall (22), Birmingham Town Hall (23), Bournemouth Winter Gardens (24), De Montfort Hall, Leicester (28) and Sheffield City Hall (29).

The tour is promoted by Harvey Goldsmith for John Smith Enterprises.
